The educational objective of the Japanese Studies major is to produce global citizens who can contribute to Korea-Japan exchanges and mutual understanding through broad knowledge of and insight on Japan.
1. Produce expert female talent equipped with comprehensive and balanced knowledge of the Japanese language and Japanese studies.
2. Produce female leaders who can create future Korea-Japan relations by understanding Japanese cultural traditions and attaining knowledge of overall Japanese studies.
3. Produce expert workers, equipped with practical knowledge and humanistic virtues, who can actively respond in the era of globalization.
The Japanese Studies major, along the line of 2005 specialization at Sookmyung, set becoming "The Best Japanese Studies Major in Korea," as its vision and set the goal of "producing 20% of the Best Japan Experts by 2020." The model leadership sought after by Sookmyung's Japanese Studies major is the best Japanese-studies experts in Korea. Producing communicative leaders with understanding of diverse culture who can communicate effectively based on this understanding and specialized leaders with deep understanding of Japanese studies and excellent problem-solving skills will be the realization of this goal.
